2024Mar10 @ Evergreen RFC

The men and women in Blue traveled to Lord Stanley’s Park and Brockton Oval last Sunday to take on the Evergreens in our first match of the second half of our season.

Your Twilighters arrived on a windy wet morning with 20 players and a number of supporters. Though short a few regulars we managed to field a team of plucky players ready to get back at it. The Evergreens could also be called the Ever-reds with the number of crimson shorts lined up across the pitch.
Game was officiated by a triad of volunteer referees, Tere and Marcus from the Greens and our own Dustin ‘Dukes’ for the last quarter.

With play set at uncontested scrums, two hand ‘tackles’ for the red-shorts, The Evergreens kicked off to start the match. Play was slow to find a pace with everyone shaking off a rather long winter break between season halves.

The Twits opened scoring with a series of well connected passes to put Luke over the line.
Early in the second 15 min quarter, Lance with his usual dance through traffic broke through for the second try that was then backed up by Jamie Levchuk doing his work from 10 to score.

With a ref switch, the second half saw us kicking into the wind but that didn’t hold us down when Doug, back from a nasty pre-season achilles injury, blasted off unopposed to score.

Play continued with the Greens finally getting on the score sheet with a nice break through.

Near the end of the third Dukes went down, then up, then down again after a shoulder to the head collision. Once we cleared Dusting and the birds floating around his head off the pitch play resumed and Gord ‘the meds make me do it’ Clark took off for another try for the Twits.

The last frame saw Dustin make a return to the pitch not as a player but match official. Who says you need all your marbles to ref? Your Twits rounded out their win with Dale making a sideline run for score.
